last night, governor christie announced water restrictions. no one is allowed to water their lawns, but they just got 18 feet of water and that seems like a reasonable request. the power is still out for 4.5 million people. it might not come back until next weekend. and they say 20% of the cell towers in new york have been wiped out. that means people have been resorting to using these. i believe they are called pay phones. they are -- look at how filthy that is. i'd rather write a letter. the only people using those were pimps. now a local pay phone company said since the power went out, they've seen a 2,500% increase in pay phone use. that is -- do you have any idea how hard it is to play draw something on a pay phone? there's also a severe gasoline shortage in new york and new jersey. 75% of the gas stations in the state of new jersey are closed right now. people are waiting in line for hours and the worst part of that is, the people driving priuses who laugh and give you the finger as they go by. but this -- and i don't want to preach here

what do you make of christie? >> part is christie being christie to a certain extent. some people were trying to figure out if romney would put him on the ticket. this is one of the reasons that was never a serious possibility because he had-s his own man and they can't control him. but i think probably the best way to understand this is, by looking at new jersey politics. remembering in new jersey, blue state, president obama carried by a big margin in '08 and will carry it by a big margin next week. christie has to run for re-election in that state next year, 2013. he's fairly well positioned to win but it's never easy being a republican in new jersey. one of the strategies christie has had to appeal to nonrepublican voters in new jersey in the last year is speaking out and publicizing alliances with democrats which creates the image of the bipartisan guy who won't get bogged down in petty republican politics. for instance, he's had this alliance with cory booker, democratic mayor of newark. alliances with democrats in mayor from south jersey. now president obama. li

no, it's difficult, and i think it also helps chris christie because christie looks authentic, looks like he's putting his state first. the problem for mitt romney is he's an also ran in this story no matter how you look at it. anything he does is going to look crass. like, for instance, having a relief rally in ohio, for instance, rather than going to where the damage is. so anything he does looks almost by nature too political. and he can't actually do anything. he can't do anything certainly for chris christie. going around with mitt romney and his secret service detail through the affected areas of new jersey would actually cause more problems and wouldn't help at all, whereas going around with the president helps him look at the damage, really view it for himself. he can actually get something out of doing that with the president. i think romney unfortunately is the odd man out. >> and here are the words that chris christie can never say again in this campaign. he said this just 11 days ago in virginia. let's listen to this. >> he never anything in his life, so the president doe
